Check incorrect levels, sensor position and tank definition
Never shorten the sensor
The level sensor has a universal length and must not be cut or shortened. Coil excess sensor cable above the cistern and stow it safely. Shortening the cable can permanently damage the sensor.
The level sensor is too long – can I shorten it?
No. The sensor must never be shortened. The sensor itself should hang straight down, roughly 5 cm above the tank bottom, without resting on the bottom or in sludge or sediment.
Do not cut it
Cutting or shortening the level sensor can permanently damage it. Coil excess sensor cable at the top and stow it safely.
Also check:
- Is the sensor hanging straight down?
- Is it roughly 5 cm above the tank bottom?
- Is it not lying in sludge or sediment?
- Is the sensor offset set correctly in the dashboard?
The displayed level is wrong or implausible
The water height in metres is wrong
The water height in metres comes directly from the measurement. Check the following in order:
- The sensor hangs straight down.
- The sensor is roughly 5 cm above the tank bottom.
- The sensor is not lying in sludge or sediment.
- The sensor has not been shortened.
- The sensor offset is set correctly.
- The sensor and data cable are visibly connected correctly.
- There is no obvious cable damage.
Sensor offset
The sensor hangs roughly 5 cm above the tank bottom. The adjustable sensor offset in the dashboard compensates for this distance. It is not detected automatically and must be set correctly by the user. An incorrectly set offset can cause incorrect water heights.
If the water height remains implausible despite a correct sensor position and offset, contact myCistern support. Do not open or repair the sensor yourself.
The water height is correct but the percentage or litres are wrong
The cause is usually the tank definition, not the sensor. The water height comes from the measurement; the percentage and litre value also depend on the tank definition.
Check the tank definition:
- the correct tank shape
- the correct height
- the correct diameter
- the correct number of tanks
- the correct predefined tank variant
If no tank is defined, the system cannot calculate a correct percentage level or volume-based tank content. Define the tank in the app or web dashboard.
