Reset and user account
Set up Wi-Fi again, share a device or transfer it to another user
New router or new Wi-Fi – reconnecting WaterGuard
For new Wi-Fi credentials, reset WaterGuard and connect it to Wi-Fi again.
- Perform a factory reset of WaterGuard.
- This deletes only the locally stored Wi-Fi SSID and Wi-Fi password.
- Connect WaterGuard to the desired Wi-Fi network again.
- The existing cloud assignment and configuration remain intact.
A factory reset deletes: Wi-Fi SSID and Wi-Fi password.
A factory reset does not delete: the owner, device assignment to the myCistern user account, tank definition, switching-output and refill configuration, or other cloud data.
A factory reset is not a complete deletion
A factory reset does not remove WaterGuard from myCistern. It only deletes the locally stored Wi-Fi credentials. To delete all cloud-side information, you must also do this in the myCistern cloud.
Use only the officially specified reset procedure from the relevant Quick Start guide or installation guide – no alternative reset procedures.
Factory reset completed – device is still in the account
This is expected behaviour. A factory reset affects only the controller’s locally stored Wi-Fi credentials. It does not remove WaterGuard from the cloud or change ownership.
- To remove it completely from the cloud, use the relevant cloud function.
- To change the owner, transfer the device.
Transfer WaterGuard to another user
The dashboard has two different functions: sharing ≠ transferring.
- Sharing: the share icon gives other people access while the original owner remains the owner.
- Transferring: the icon with the two arrows transfers the device to another myCistern account and changes ownership.
Device is already assigned to another user
This can happen after a house sale, when taking over a cistern or when an installer performed the setup.
- If the previous owner is reachable, transfer the device using the transfer function.
- If the previous owner is not reachable, contact myCistern support.
A factory reset does not resolve this assignment.
