Important safety information for your myCistern WaterGuard device
Read this safety information carefully before installing, connecting, or operating a WaterGuard device. It applies to WaterGuard Refill and WaterGuard Level, including their associated power supplies. Keep this information for future reference.
Intended use
WaterGuard devices are intended solely for use with stationary rainwater cisterns. They are not intended for drinking water, potentially explosive atmospheres, flooding, or submersion.
Install the main unit and power supply in a dry location protected from rain, frost, and direct sunlight. IP44 protection does not permit unprotected outdoor installation. When working on the cistern dome or cistern, also follow the tank manufacturer's instructions.
Electrical safety
Danger
Risk of electric shock and fire. Work on the electrical installation and 24 V connections may only be carried out by qualified personnel. Disconnect the power supply before working on the device or its connections. Work only with dry hands and in a dry work area.
- End users may plug in and unplug the power supply, but must not install or modify electrical connections.
- Use the power supply only with a mains supply as stated on its rating plate; the intended supply is 220 to 230 V at 50 Hz.
- WaterGuard Refill uses a 24 V DC supply. Each of its two switched outputs may carry a maximum load of 0.5 A at 24 V DC.
- WaterGuard Level uses a 5 V DC supply via USB-C.
- Do not continue operating the device if it is visibly damaged, wet, has damaged cables, or behaves unusually. Disconnect the power only if this can be done safely, then contact myCistern Support or a qualified installer.
Danger when entering a cistern
Danger
Risk of death from oxygen deficiency, hazardous gases, falling, and drowning. Do not enter a cistern unless this is safeguarded in accordance with the tank manufacturer's instructions and applicable occupational-safety requirements. Cisterns can contain hazardous gases such as biogas or carbon dioxide, and oxygen deficiency can occur.
Where possible, install the sensor from outside and in accordance with the tank manufacturer's instructions. If a person becomes unconscious inside the cistern, do not enter to attempt a rescue. Call emergency services on 112 and arrange professional rescue.
Protection from water and moisture
Warning
Keep water away from the controller and power supply. The main controller, circuit board, and power supply must not be exposed to rain, dripping water, flooding, or wet hands. Do not install the controller in the cistern dome or submerge it.
Prevent all water ingress into the enclosure during installation. Do not open the enclosure or carry out repairs or modifications to the device.
Sensor and cables
Warning
Only the stainless-steel sensor capsule may be submerged. The black sensor box at the upper end of the sensor contains the pressure equalisation. It is protected against moisture but is not waterproof and must never be submerged.
- Do not shorten, cut, damage, kink, crush, or put the sensor cable under tension.
- Use only myCistern-approved extension cables for data connections. Non-original data-cable extensions are not permitted.
- Original extension cables are available from myCistern on request.
Approved accessories and modifications
Warning
Use only myCistern-certified power supplies, valves, and data cables. Unapproved components, repairs, or modifications can cause injury, property damage, and malfunction.
Do not carry out repairs or modifications to the device. Unapproved changes or components can also affect claims under the applicable warranty conditions.
In the event of unintended water inflow or a fault
Important
In the event of unintended water inflow: First close the water supply at the shut-off valve. Then, if it is safe to do so, disconnect the power supply by unplugging it at the plug. Do not repair or restart the device before contacting myCistern Support or a qualified installer.
Configuration and data
A factory reset only removes the Wi-Fi credentials stored on the device. Once it reconnects to Wi-Fi, configuration data stored in the myCistern cloud remains. To remove all data, also delete the device from the myCistern cloud.
